About me

My full name is Aleksandra Janusz-Kamińska, but as an author I use my maidens's name, Aleksandra Janusz.

My bread and butter is cellular and molecular neuroscience. I research the mechanisms of RNA transport, processing, and translation in various genetic disorders associated with autism. I'm fascinated with the mammalian brain and mechanisms that shape our perception of the external world.
Before I was a scientist, I was already a writer and intermittently, a journalist. Literature, especially the fantasy and science fiction genre, allows us to explore the most outrageous ideas, and worlds that could have happened or could have never existed. I believe there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

I was a fantasy fan before I even started high school, and it's natural for me to translate my interests into literary works. I've debuted in "Science Fiction" 4/2001 with the story "Files from Farewell". I've published the following novels: "House of the Rising Sun" (urban fantasy and horror) and three parts of the adventure fantasy/science fantasy series "Chronicles of Torn World" - "Sorceress' Assistant", "Lost Bretagne" and "Guild's Shadow". I've been nominated to Slakfa Prize in 2016 and Nowa Fantastyka's Reflektor Award in 2017. Early on, I've published stories and essays in "Fahrenheit", anime and manga magazine "Kawaii" and, occasionally, a role-playing game magazine "Magic and Sword". I've been a one-time chief editor of the all-female issue of the magazine "Fenix" (5/2019). I belong to an informal literary writer's group "Hardy Horde"/"Tough Horde" (choose your version, it's a hard-to-translate pun).

Currently, I am working at Emory University in Atlanta, United States.
Below is my scientific profile on Research Gate.

 ---------

Debiutowałam w „Science Fiction” 4/2001 opowiadaniem „Z akt miasta Farewell”, jestem autorką powieści „Dom wschodzącego słońca”, łączącej elementy urban fantasy i horroru, oraz trzech tomów serii przygodowego science fantasy „Kroniki rozdartego świata” - „Asystent czarodziejki”,  „Utracona Bretania” i „Cień Gildii”. Zostałam nominowana do Śląkfy w 2016 i Reflektora Nowej Fantastyki w 2017.
